Macbook “Poor-man” anti Theft script

For some of us that enjoy alone time at cafe would no doubt understand the need for an extra eyes on your belongings… in my case, the Macbook I would normally be working on.

Though this is in no way a perfect security system to prevent theft, but it will at the very least add an additional security. (Or just treat this as a showcase of AppleScript’s capability). So please don’t come crying to me if your beloved Macbook is stolen due to negligence.

The method I rely on  is pretty simple, it will run continuously and detect changes to the power cable which is connected. ( If someone were to do anything i.e. to take your system, AC power would definitely be cut/removed ). Once the power cable is disturbed, an iMessage will be deliver to you. ( Then you better come running…)

Fire up “Script Editor” through spotLight, and type out the following script (code)

Please make sure you replace the recipient iMessage address to your own. Once you have done so, you can click on the “Play” button up top and it will execute the script every 2 seconds. Whenever the Power cable is disturbed, a new Message app is going to fire up and send an Alert message to you.
